Actions and Decisions
1. Data Discovery Portal team should continue to work together with frequent telecons and work sessions. The portal is not a single application or interface, but should include a fast data discovery tool that supports input of a list of objects, a data exploration environment (e.g., VIM), and a simple command line and scripting environment (e.g., the VOClient tools shown by Mike). Mike will join the DDP tiger team.
2. Year 7 planning needs to move to more detailed level. The following people agreed to coordinate the work planning for various work areas in the Year 7 proposal.
- WBS 3: Operations, System Integration, and Testing --- Tom
- WBS 4: Registries --- Ray
- WBS 5: Data Models --- Jonathan (proposed by Pepi, to be confirmed)
- WBS 6: Data Access Layer --- Doug
- WBS 7: Query Language --- Ani
- WBS 8: Web and Grid Services --- Matthew
- WBS 9: Applications --- Bob and Tom
This coordination means that the above people should, in the next two weeks, contact others in the team who should be involved in the work in each area, discuss plans and priorities, and make sure that the budgeted resources are adequate to carry out the work. If there are mismatches in plans and resources, set priorities and let Bob know about the problems. Each coordinator should cc/ Bob on e-mails, at least at the level of decisions and issues. Bob will make sure all of these people have copies of the final proposal submitted to NSF.
3. We agreed to keep the format of the next Summer School as is, and to a separate NVO Science Workshop of 2-3 days duration. The latter would be a combination of science presentations, demonstrations, tutorials, and work sessions. Likely schedule would be for spring 2008. Bob will see if
STScI would be willing to host this given their experience in running science workshops.
4. The fall team meeting will be held in early November. Please hold Nov 8-9 and Nov 12-13 as possible dates. Caltech, NCSA, and SAO are possible sites.
5. Organizations within the NVO team are asked to send copies or pointers to their organization's software development procedures to the NVO Technical Working Group distribution list (techwg at us-vo.org). Due by the end of the week.
